Fix cracking and flacking paint

HousePrep4 Fix cracking and flacking paint

Cracking and flacking happens because the old oil based paint loses adhesion, flexibility and becomes hard and brittle. Its most frequent cause is poor surface preparation.

To correctly fix cracking and flacking paint areas, follow next steps:
1. Remove all loose paint with a scraper.
2. Sand the surface and feather the edges.
3. Spackle deep scars caused by cracking/flaking of multiple coats of paint and sand.
4. Remove all sanding dust.
5. Spot primer on all the area. Priming is essential for better adhesion, sheen uniformity, mildew control and durability. There are different primers for wood, drywall and undercoater.
6. Select a top quality interior paint in the color and sheen of your choice.

Well done!
