Repair a faucet with a basin wrench

how-to-replace-a-faucet-2 Repair a faucet with a basin wrench

When a faucet is beyond repair-or simply out of fashion-replace it with another. Unless both the old and new faucets have 8-inch or longer supply tubes, you’ll need a basin wrench to grip and turn fittings up behind the sink.

Clear space below the sink as best you can and turn off the angle stops. Slip a basin wrench into place around the fitting and loosen it by turning the wrench counterclockwise. Gently push the supply tube aside and loosen the lock nut of the faucet.

Installation reverses this process. You may need an assistant to hold the faucet in place while you tighten it from below. Reattach the supply line or replace it with a flexible supply tube.
