Safety tips to remove a door

500639_L1 Safety tips to remove a door

Solid-core doors are quite heavy, and you can strain your back moving them around. Always try to have them resting on something other than your body.
Most door hinges have removable pins. That means you don’t have to remove the hinge screws just to get the door off. To remove a door, close it and start with the lowest hinge. If the bottom of the hinge is open and high enough off the floor, tap a nail up the hole to push out the pin.
Older hinge pins with decorative elements, like the ball hinge at right, have no access hole. To remove one of these pins, position the tip of a small screwdriver just under the hinge pin head. Tap it out lightly with your hammer.
