Tips to keep your foundation / basement dry

basement_foundation Tips to keep your foundation / basement dry

Perforated plastic drainage pipe, embedded in a gravel trench at the footing of a foundation wall, drains water away from the foundation before it can build up pressure. Before filling the trench, line it with filter fabric to keep fine soil particles from clogging the drain gravel over time.
Retrofitting foundation drains is a grueling job. The trenching must often be done by hand because heavy equipment won’t fit alongside many houses. Try some of the other methods presented in Related Topics before you undertake this effort.
The ground around your home should slope down away from the foundation. It probably did when your house was built, but it may not now. Even properly graded soil tends to settle over time. Correct the problem by adding or removing fill and resloping the grade.
